One of the most common disorders among women is the PCOS or the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is an endocrine irregularity which affects the childbearing capability of women. It is not actually a disease but rather, an irregularity and can affect women at any age before menopause. Some women are not aware they already have it since the symptoms are almost the same as with the other conditions. When a woman has PCOS, there’s a tendency for the ovary to produce a lot of follicles each month without actually producing an egg. That is why PCOS is one of the most common causes of infertility among women. There’s a chance that a woman with PCOS may not have menstruation for a couple of months. Or there’s an irregularity in the menstrual cycle. Other symptoms of PCOS include acne outburst and high-blood pressure. There’s also an effect in weight like most women who suffer from this irregularity are usually heavier than their usual weight. There’s also an abnormal facial and body hair growth due to a production of elevated androgen hormones levels.
Usually, when a woman is diagnosed with PCOS, the doctor will advise for her to take contraceptive pills to help regularize the menstruation cycle. There’s also some case when doctors prescribe Metformin to help reduce the weight.
Although not many women have tried it yet, but one of the known cures for PCOS is using acupuncture for fertility issues. Experts say it can help regulate the woman’s menstrual periods and even treat infertility.
Relieving PCOS with Acupuncture
In treating PCOS with acupuncture, the needles target the meridians to stimulate the reproductive system. Using this method, it can help activate the organs, normalize the hormone levels. Also it improve the flow of blood and encourage the proper functioning of the reproductive system. Normally, the acupuncturist will insert needles into the abdominal muscles. And at the back of the knee which are said to be the points related to the ovaries.
While this treatment for PCOS is not yet as popular as the other methods. But it won’t hurt to try acupuncture to treat PCOS. After all, a study can support this claim, and it is mostly better instead of taking in pills and other medicines which can just cause further damage to your liver in the long run.
